Food Lion is an American grocery store chain founded in 1957 as Food Town in Salisbury by three business people, Wilson Smith, Brown Ketner, and Ralph Ketner. It is a subsidiary of Ahold Delhaize and currently headquartered in Salisbury. The chain name Food Lion was adopted in 1983.

Since its inception, the chain has passed through many acquisitions and mergers. It currently operates over 1,000 grocery stores across the US states in Delaware, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Tennessee, and Kentucky, with more than 77,000 employed associates.
